Ladrillo perforadoPerforated brick
This is the brick with perforations in the bed with a volume over 10%. Its shape is achieved by extruding the clay through a nozzle. Perforated brick is used generally when building with facing brick. It is normally used in bonds with conventional perpends, around 1 cm. or 1.5 cm., assuring resistance and sealing, as the mortar penetrates the perforations achieving perfect adherence between materials.

Solid brick
This brick is without perforations or with perforations in the volume bed not over 10%. It is obtained by extruding clay through a nozzle or by pressing on a mould. Pressed bricks have grooves on one or both beds. These grooves are used to house a sufficient thickness of mortar in the bed to guarantee the perfect adherence between parts, thereby avoiding sealing and resistance problems, especially when using perpends with thicknesses less than 0.5 cm. Bricks are available on the market if vertical perpends with little thickness are required.

Tiling or manual brick
This is a craft manufactured brick used for its aesthetic appearance. It has a course aspect with rough, not very flat faces.

Low-suction brick
These bricks have a suction less than 0.05 g/cm2.min. Therefore, in order for them to be laid correctly, a series of specific recommendations should be followed.

Waterproof bricks
These bricks are subjected to a process consisting of applying a waterproofing product, by immersion or spraying. When a spraying system is used, the water-repellent should only be applied on the facing sides, or also partially on the beds. In the first case, the brick suction is not modified. When it is also applied partially to the beds, some areas inside the perforations are not waterproofed, and therefore suction is reduced compared to the immersion method, in which the total surface of the brick is waterproofed.

When a brick is waterproofed, its transpiration capacity is not eliminated, as although its watertightness increases in its liquid state, water still passes through in the form of vapour.

Ladrillos clínker y gresificadosClinker and vitrified stoneware bricks
These are ceramic bricks manufactured from special clays, which are fired at high temperatures to close porosity resulting in material with water absorption under 6% and a density above 2 g/cm3.

Apart from these characteristics, clinker bricks have a minimum compressive strength of 500 daN/cm2.

Special parts
Owing to the versatility of ceramic materials, it is possible to obtain very diverse parts, meeting functional and ornamental needs. To cast these parts, special nozzles or moulds are used.

These parts are used to: form part of an arch, to make corbels, ledge finishes, wall finishes, corner fixtures, angle direction changes, thickness changes, to round off corners, etc.

Piezas especialesTheir use is recommendable, as their design helps to improve the finishes of complicated fixtures and exceptional points.

Protection, storage and handling measures of these parts should be maximized, as they are difficult to replace if they deteriorate, apart from being more expensive than normal bricks.
